Welcome to the Caton United Methodist Church
I wonder, how will 2014 be different. What new paths will you follow?
Sometimes it can feel like the same old same. We get up, we go to work, school or about the tasks for the day and we get caught up in the mundane. We wonder if this is all there is to life.
It is in the everyday that God spoke to Joseph, Mary, the Shepherds, the Wise Men and many others. God also speaks to us in the everyday—each day God is waiting for us to become aware of God’s presence in our lives. We call this our spiritual journey--we make the choice, like the Wise Men, to follow the star. A journey sometimes takes us to places that are familiar—like returning to our favorite vacation spot. Other time, we set out to a new destination. So it is with our spiritual journey, God is ready to take us on a journey. How shall we prepare ourselves for the trip?
At the heart of the spiritual journey is the understanding that it is a journey. We will learn along the way. Once we decide to be a Christ-follower, a disciple, we are not expected to achieve instant spiritual maturity. Christian spirituality involves a choice we make to “know and grow” in our daily relationship. As we worship with other Christians, talk together, study in a small group and spend time each day with God—reading the Bible, praying, giving thanks, we are active participants in the journey.
On the journey—together! When we choose to be involved with a Christian community, we take steps closer to a deeper relationship with our Creator. During these winter months we have two small groups to travel with as you join the journey.
Beginnings—is an introduction to the Christian Faith. In each two-hour session, participants will share a meal, watch a short video/DVD segment, develop the spiritual disciplines of Christian conversation and study of Scripture, engage in meaningful discussion and reflection, explore Christian faith and teachings, and grow in depth of experience through the small group.
True Spirituality--We struggle to know what God wants FROM us and FOR us …. and we're unsure what a real relationship with God really looks like. In Romans 12, God gives us a clear picture of what Christians should look like at the root level. If you're ready to move beyond the motions of religion and experience a real relationship with God, your journey begins here.
Real Women Real Faith Life-Changing Stories from the Bible for Women Today. In this DVD study we will meet six women from the Old Testament who encountered God and whose lives were forever changed. These remarkable women will encourage us through their failures as well as their successes. We’ll see how God was with them as they struggled to live with faith in a world filled with trials. And we will see how their lives, though lived long ago, speak with fresh relevance to the issues in your life and relationships today. We will study the lives of Eve, Rebekah, Leah, Hannah, Abigail, and Gomer.
Make the year 2014, the year you take the journey to grow deeper in your faith journey. Join us for worship—Sundays 9 am or 10:30
On the journey together
Worship in the Prayer Garden
Caton UMC members join with a team of workers to serve in Union Beach, NJ. We worked rebuilding a church so the community would have a place together after Hurricane Sandy. (April, 2013)
In 2011, members and friends of the Caton UMC with help from area churches raised $10,000 to provide "Water for Nigeria"
A water tanker was purchased and now water is taken to 10 communities in Nigeria. This is one of the holding tanks where people come to get water.
This is a way to provide clean water in the dry season.
